The Opportunity
The Ministry of Health, Acute and Emergency Services Branch is seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented individual to join our team for a permanent position as a Research Officer. We offer a challenging, innovative, and supportive work environment, with opportunities to provide leadership and support province-wide planning, delivery and evaluation of acute and emergency services including hospital, emergency department, ambulance, and medical imaging services.
As a Research Officer, you will apply your data analysis, research, statistical, simulation modeling, communication, and visualization skills to the assessment of a variety of complex issues. You will use your creativity and problem-solving skills in the development of options including financial and program implications.
In this role, you will provide:
- Analytical and system support for measuring surgical, medical imaging, and emergency department wait times;
- Demographic and geographic analysis;
- Expertise in population projections and health care demand and capacity modeling;
- System monitoring, including development and implementation of performance, patient safety, and quality indicators and measures for inpatient, day surgery, emergency department, medical imaging, and ground ambulance services;
- Financial analysis, including program and service costing;
- Analytical support for capital projects; and
- Support for improving data quality and standards in information systems.
The Ideal Candidate
As our successful candidate you will have:
- Knowledge of issues pertaining to the delivery of acute and emergency services in Saskatchewan;
- Knowledge of the databases, standards, and reports of the Canadian Institute for Health Information and Statistics Canada;
- The ability to produce descriptive statistics, data visualizations, and control charts;
- The ability to analyze trends, develop solutions to complex problems, summarize findings, and provide recommendations;
- The ability to write computer programs to extract and summarize data from large databases using software such as SAS, SQL, and/or R and use the advanced features of Excel; and
- The ability to use forecasting, statistical modeling, and/or computer simulation to help quantify future requirements and/or the implications of different policy decisions.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position are gained through the completion of a Masters or Ph.D. degree in Health Informatics, Operations Research, Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, or Engineering and two or more years of work experience in data analysis or applied statistics.
