MASS Excavation & Demolition is a fast-growing heavy civil contractor specializing in excavation, backfilling, site grading, remediation, and demolition across the National Capital Region. Our projects range from small residential digs to large commercial buildings, multi-unit developments, storm and sewer servicing, parking lots, site grading, and full demolition packages.
We’re looking for a hardworking, reliable Labourer to support our crews on site and help keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and productively.
THE ROLE
As a Labourer, you will play a key role in supporting the day to day operations of active job sites. You’ll work alongside operators, foremen, and other crew members to complete the job on the construction site. This includes tasks such as shovelling, raking, moving materials, directing traffic, and assisting with compaction and grade preparation. You’ll be expected to work hard, stay alert, take direction well, and contribute to a safe, organized, and productive site every day while working in a physically demanding outdoor environment in varying weather conditions.
TOP 4 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. SITE SUPPORT
- Assist with excavation, grading, backfilling, demolition, and site servicing work.
- Perform general labour tasks such as shovelling, raking, cleanup, material handling, and tool setup.
- Operate small equipment such as plate tampers (gas/diesel), jumping jacks, and ride-on compactors.
- Support operators and foremen by preparing work areas and helping keep production moving.
2. SAFETY & SITE CLEANLINESS
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and site rules at all times.
- Wear proper PPE and use tools and equipment safely.Help keep the site clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Assist with traffic control and maintain safe work zones when required.
- Report unsafe conditions, hazards, or incidents immediately.
3. TEAMWORK
- Take direction from the Foreman and work effectively with the rest of the crew.
- Communicate clearly with operators, supervisors, and coworkers to keep work running smoothly.
- Be willing to help wherever needed to keep the site productive.
- Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to a strong crew culture.
4. WORK ETHIC
- Show up ready to work every day and maintain a strong pace throughout the shift.
- Follow instructions carefully and complete tasks properly the first time.
- Stay focused, avoid wasted time, and help the crew hit daily production targets.
- Take pride in doing quality work, even on the small tasks.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
- BY 6 MONTHS - You are dependable, show up on time, and have become a trusted member of the crew. You understand site expectations, work safely, and contribute positively to daily production. Foremen and operators know they can rely on you to work hard, follow direction, and help keep the site organized and moving.
- BY 12 MONTHS - You are a strong, capable labourer who needs minimal direction on day-to-day tasks. You understand the flow of the job, anticipate what the crew needs, and consistently contribute to safe, efficient, high-quality work. You don’t like to stand still and are always looking for work to do. You are seen as someone the team wants on their site because of your work ethic, attitude, and reliability.

QUALIFICATIONS & WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in construction, excavation, demolition, landscaping, or general labour is an asset.
- Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and performing demanding manual work daily.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew.
- Experience using hand tools and small equipment is an asset.
- Knowledge of laser levels or basic survey equipment is an asset.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation are strongly preferred.
Pay: $20.00-$30.00 per hour
