MCW Consultants is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our growing Truro office.
Whether you're a recent graduate beginning your professional career, an Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or an experienced Professional Engineer, we are interested in speaking with candidates who are passionate about building design and engineering.
Working closely with our electrical and mechanical teams, you will contribute to the design and delivery of healthcare, institutional, commercial, and public-sector projects throughout Atlantic Canada. Responsibilities and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
This is an office-based position located in Truro, Nova Scotia. Our office is home to a close-knit team of approximately 10 engineers, technologists, and administrative professionals, covering both mechanical and electrical disciplines. While you'll enjoy the friendly, collaborative environment of a small office, you'll also have the support of our larger offices throughout the Maritimes, giving you the opportunity to contribute to projects of all sizes and complexities.
What You'll Do
Responsibilities will be tailored to your experience level and may include:
- Assist with the design of electrical systems for buildings, including power distribution, lighting, emergency power, fire alarm, communications, and other building systems.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
- Develop electrical system layouts and equipment selections in collaboration with project teams.
- Coordinate designs with mechanical, structural, architectural, and other project disciplines.
- Participate in site investigations, field reviews, and existing-condition assessments.
- Periodically needed to conduct field measurements and gather information for renovation and infrastructure upgrade projects.
- Review shop drawings, contractor submissions, and requests for information during construction.
- Support project teams through all phases of design and construction.
What We're Looking For
We are seeking motivated individuals with strong technical aptitude, curiosity, and a desire to contribute to meaningful building projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Nova Scotia.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally to project sites throughout Atlantic Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in consulting engineering or electrical systems design.
- Familiarity with electrical systems for healthcare, institutional, commercial, or public-sector facilities.
- Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and applicable industry standards.
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Site review and construction administration experience.
- Project management or project coordination experience.
