Title: Music Therapist
JOB SUMMARY: Through the skillful use of music/music elements, the Music Therapist promotes, maintains, and restores mental, physical, cognitive, emotional, and spiritual health. Interventions are based upon individual assessment, treatment planning, and ongoing program evaluation in individual and group formats. The Music Therapist ensures that the program establishes and achieves goals and objectives that are consistent with the mission of the care facility.

Responsibilities:
- Encourage clients to explore the world of sound and communicate through a musical language of their own
- Provide supplies, musical instruments, and equipment for music therapy
- Assess residents needs and set goals accordingly
- Coordinate music therapy schedule with recreation staff
- Develop and implement music therapy strategies
- Clerical work such as documentation, reporting, and resident file updating
- Consult and update treatment care team
- Maintain confidentiality concerning residents, staff and organizational information
- Participate in resident committee meetings
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in music therapy/Certified music therapist
- Certification with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists
- Post secondary education in Music Therapy
- High level of musical ability
- Experience working with older adults, experience working with individuals with physical and/or cognitive disabilities, experience working in long term care
- Experience in geriatrics is an asset
- Observant and alert to physical and behavioral changes in residents
- Patient with high tolerance
- Physically fit/able to meet physical demands of the job
