Job Summary
The Commercial Underwriter & Lender will be responsible for analyzing commercial lending opportunities, underwriting loan applications, assessing risk, and coordinating with lenders to secure financing solutions for clients. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience in commercial lending, and the ability to manage multiple files in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze commercial mortgage and business loan applications.
- Assess financial statements, tax returns, rent rolls, appraisals, and supporting documentation.
- Conduct credit and risk analysis for commercial financing transactions.
- Prepare detailed credit and underwriting summaries for lenders.
- Structure financing solutions tailored to client needs.
- Liaise with banks, credit unions, private lenders, and alternative lending institutions.
- Manage files from application through funding.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and lender requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with lenders, brokers, and clients.
- Monitor market trends and lending guidelines.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial lending, underwriting, banking, or commercial mortgage financing.
- Strong understanding of commercial real estate financing and business lending.
- Experience analyzing financial statements, cash flow, debt service coverage, and borrower strength.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple files simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with commercial mortgages, private lending, or alternative financing.
- Existing relationships with lenders and financial institutions.
- Knowledge of Canadian lending practices and underwriting standards.
