Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Site Supervisor to oversee construction projects and ensure their timely completion within budget and to high-quality standards.
The Site Superintendent is responsible for the day‑to‑day on‑site management, coordination, and supervision of all construction activities from mobilization through turnover. This role ensures the project is constructed in accordance with the contract documents, drawings, schedule, safety standards, and quality expectations, with a strong focus on coordination of site works, building envelope, interior finishes, and tenant requirements.
Project Overview
The project consists of the construction of a ±15,000 sq. ft. single‑storey Shoppers Drug Mart (Model Square) on a ±1.9‑acre site with surface parking, truck delivery access, underground services, landscaping, and exterior site works. The building includes retail floor area, loading/service zones, and branded exterior façades requiring close coordination with consultants, trades, and the client.
Key Responsibilities
Site Management & Construction Execution
- Take full responsibility for daily site operations, sequencing, and supervision of all subcontractors and suppliers.
- Interpret and enforce the architectural, civil, and consultant drawings, including:
- Site layout, grading, servicing, parking, and truck turning requirements.
- Floor plan dimensions and structural/layout coordination.
- Exterior elevations, finishes, canopies, bollards, and brand elements.
- Ensure construction matches approved drawings, specifications, and revisions.
- Maintain site logistics to accommodate delivery trucks (WB‑67), trade access, and public safety.
Schedule & Coordination
- Develop, maintain, and enforce the site construction schedule, coordinating:
- Civil works (earthworks, services, curbs, asphalt, landscaping).
- Building shell (foundations, slab, structure, envelope).
- Interior fit‑out and base building systems.
- Coordinate work between civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and architectural trades to avoid conflicts and rework.
- Plan and manage key milestones, inspections, and turnover requirements.
Quality Control
- Implement and enforce project quality standards at all phases.
- Conduct routine inspections of completed work to ensure:
- Accurate layout and dimensions.
- Proper installation of exterior finishes and building envelope components.
- Compliance with Shoppers Drug Mart prototype standards.
- Identify deficiencies early and ensure timely corrective action.
- Maintain accurate deficiency lists through to final completion.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Enforce all health and safety regulations, including provincial OH&S requirements.
- Lead daily toolbox talks, hazard assessments, and site orientations.
- Ensure site fencing, signage, pedestrian controls, and traffic management measures are in place.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized jobsite at all times.
Communications & Reporting
- Act as the primary on‑site representative of the General Contractor.
- Communicate effectively with:
- Project Manager
- Consultants and inspectors
- Client and tenant representatives
- Municipal authorities and utility companies
- Maintain detailed daily site reports, documenting manpower, progress, inspections, deficiencies, and weather impacts.
- Participate in regular site meetings and provide clear progress updates.
Inspections, Close‑Out & Turnover
- Coordinate and attend all municipal, consultant, and client inspections.
- Ensure completion of all base building and site works required for occupancy.
- Manage deficiencies, commissioning support, and final clean‑up.
- Assist with preparation of as‑built information, warranties, and close‑out documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
· Minimum 8–10 years of experience as a Site Superintendent on commercial / retail construction projects.
· Proven experience delivering single‑storey retail buildings with site works (drugstores, grocery, big‑box, or similar).
· Strong working knowledge of:
- - Site servicing and civil coordination
- - Concrete, steel, wood framing, and building envelope systems
- - Retail interior fit‑outs and brand requirements
· Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and civil drawings with confidence.
· Strong leadership, organization, and problem‑solving skills
Certifications (Preferred or Required)
· Trade certification or construction‑related education
· Valid First Aid / CPR
· Working at Heights
· WHMIS
· CSTS or equivalent safety training
