We provide CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, electronics assembly, design, and project management services, supporting customers in aerospace, marine, defence, forestry, scientific research, and specialty vehicle industries.
As our aerospace and advanced manufacturing business continues to grow, we are expanding our team to support increasing demand for estimating, planning, and process development activities.
Opportunity
We are looking for a Junior Estimator to support the commercial and technical side of our manufacturing operations. This role bridges engineering, manufacturing, and customer service by transforming customer requirements into manufacturable processes and accurate quotations.
Working closely with our Manufacturing Manager, machinists, planners, and suppliers, you will help evaluate incoming opportunities, develop manufacturing plans, prepare quotes, and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the business.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer or technologist who wants hands-on exposure to manufacturing engineering, project management, quality systems, and business operations within a growing aerospace-focused manufacturer.
Responsibilities
Estimating & Quoting
· Review incoming RFQs, drawings, models, and specifications
· Determine whether projects fit within Rainhouse’s manufacturing capabilities
· Develop manufacturing plans and estimate labour, material, tooling, and subcontract costs
· Coordinate with machinists and process owners to obtain accurate process inputs
· Source pricing from external vendors for materials and outsourced processes
· Prepare and issue customer quotations through ProShop ERP
· Manage customer communication throughout the quoting process
· Follow up on open quotations and track quote activity and win rates
Process Engineering & Planning
· Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews
· Collaborate with machinists to develop efficient manufacturing processes
· Assist with tooling selection and procurement
· Support fixture and manufacturing design when required
· Create and maintain manufacturing documentation within ProShop
· Assist with job setup planning and process standardization
Continuous Improvement & Quality
· Support improvements to internal systems and workflows
· Assist with maintaining documentation within our AS9100 and ISO 9001 Quality Management System
· Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and profitability
· Participate in process improvement projects across the organization
Qualifications
Required
· Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Excellent written and verbal communication
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Assets
· Experience in a manufacturing environment
· Exposure to CNC machining or fabrication processes
· CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred)
· Familiarity with ERP systems
· Understanding of AS9100, ISO 9001, or regulated manufacturing environments
Security & Reliability Screening
Some of our work falls under Controlled Goods and involves Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain Reliability Status, which includes a background check and fingerprinting conducted after hire. This is a condition of continued employment.
