Category Manager - Commodities
Build your future with a company that's building! We’re looking for a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Category Manager to join our team. This role is responsible for overseeing purchasing, inventory management, and merchandising of products across our facilities, ensuring the right products are in the right place at the right time.
Your Responsibilities will Include:
- Purchasing & Sourcing: Develop SKU assortments for each facility, align purchasing with ILDC Buying Group, and explore import opportunities to balance brand-name and value-priced merchandise.
- Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, maintain 95% service levels, and utilize demand forecasting tools to optimize stock, replenishment, and group buys.
- Pricing & Margins: Maintain accurate cost and pricing structures, conduct competitive price checks, and ensure margins are achieved across all categories.
- Logistics & Transportation: Coordinate with transport companies for efficient deliveries and support warehouse operations with returns, credits, and damage claims.
- Merchandising Execution: Support plan-o-grams, signage, and in-store merchandising strategies while ensuring shelves are stocked and visually appealing.
- Flyer & Promotions Coordination: Work with Marketing to execute monthly flyers, ensuring pricing accuracy, proper product placement, and on-time delivery.
- Administrative Duties: Prepare purchase orders, manage vendor communications, and develop annual category business plans with sales, margin, and inventory strategies.
- Inventory Control: Ensure accuracy of stock levels, minimizing stockouts and overstock situations.
- Communication & Collaboration: Work closely with store teams, vendors, and internal departments to communicate product updates, order changes, and delivery timelines.
- Team Support: Collaborate across departments, provide cross-training support, and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety standards, including proper use of PPE when required.
What You Need to Succeed:
- Industry Experience: Background in purchasing, merchandising, or inventory management (Lumber or retail experience preferred).
- Analytical Skills: Strong understanding of inventory control, forecasting, and margin management.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUP); experience with bisTrack POS system is an asset.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in pricing, purchase orders, and inventory tracking.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with vendors, managers, and team members.
- Problem-Solving Ability: Proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing solutions.
- Team-Oriented Mindset: Collaborative, positive attitude with a focus on supporting team success.
