Position Title: Finance Specialist
Reports to: Associate Director, Finance
Location: Ottawa, ON (Head Office)
Summary of Position:
The Finance Specialist is responsible for supporting the day-to-day financial operational activities of the organization, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across core accounting processes.
This role combines transactional accounting, financial reporting, and operational support, with responsibility for accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and data reporting. The Finance Specialist plays a key role in maintaining financial integrity, supporting business operations, and contributing to continuous process improvements and strong internal controls.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Transactional Finance and Core Accounting
- Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing, collections, and monitoring aged receivables
- Manage accounts payable, including invoice processing, coding, approvals, and payment execution
- Perform daily cash application, cheque deposits, and reconciliation of cash receipts
- Perform daily bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and supporting documentation
- Support monthly close processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules
Cash Management & Financial Controls
- Support cash management activities, including monitoring cash balances and cash flow tracking
- Identify, investigate, and escalate financial discrepancies, risks, and control gaps
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and regulatory requirements
- Adhere to financial reporting requirements
Reporting & Analysis
- Assist with financial analysis, including ad hoc analysis, projections, and management reporting
- Gather, validate, and maintain data to support business insights and decision-making
- Complete monthly bordereaux and insurer-related reporting requirements
- Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and financial reporting policies
Operations & Cross-Functional Support
- Provide cross-functional support to finance, operations, and insurance teams
- Coordinate and support finance and operational projects
- Assist with administrative and operational tasks as required
- Support business operations during peak periods
Process Improvement & Documentation
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation within finance operations
- Support the development, testing, and maintenance of operational procedures and guides
- Contribute to improving data quality, efficiency, and financial processes
Functional & Behavioural Competencies

- A good understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

- Comfortable working with financial systems and advanced Excel functions (e.g., lookups, pivot tables)

Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2–5 years of experience in a finance, accounting, or similar role
- Experience within insurance brokerage, financial services, or professional services is an asset
Pay: $55,000.00-$62,000.00 per year
