Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Field Advisor
Manitoba and/or Saskatchewan
Smithco Limited is a growing Construction Management firm specializing in civil infrastructure projects across Canada. We are seeking a motivated Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Field Advisor to support construction projects throughout Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
This position is ideal for an HSE professional who enjoys working in the field, building strong relationships with crews, and helping create a proactive safety culture. Local projects are expected to provide full-time hours, with overtime opportunities available.
What You'll Do
As an HSE Field Advisor, you will partner with project teams, clients, and contractors to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations by:
- Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of Health, Safety & Environmental programs.
- Conducting field inspections, audits, and compliance assessments.
- Coaching and mentoring supervisors and field personnel on safe work practices and regulatory requirements.
- Investigating incidents, identifying root causes, and assisting with corrective action development and follow-up.
- Delivering orientations, toolbox talks, and safety training.
- Monitoring contractor compliance with company and client HSE expectations.
- Preparing reports on inspections, incidents, investigations, trends, and overall safety performance.
- Identifying opportunities to improve safety systems, reduce risk, and strengthen compliance.
- Assisting with hazard assessments, safe work procedures, emergency planning, and HSE documentation.
- Building positive working relationships with project management, clients, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Certificate, Diploma, or professional designation in Occupational Health & Safety (or be actively working toward one), such as NCSO, CSO, HSA, CRSP, or equivalent.
- 1–5 years of field-based HSE experience in construction, utilities, telecommunications, or civil infrastructure (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of provincial health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong incident investigation and problem-solving abilities.
- Confidence working independently while supporting multiple field locations.
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and desire to continually learn and grow.
- The ability to travel throughout Manitoba and/or Saskatchewan and work overtime when required.

Pay: $50,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
