POSITION SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Executive Chef, the role of the Prep Cook is to help ensure that Cedars kitchen operates in a manner that is consistent with the goals and objectives of the treatment program. Prep Cooks are responsible for the preparation and delivery of healthy and delicious meals to patients and staff. This person will be highly engaged in the patient experience of Cedars and will utilize a patient centered, collaborative approach to care at Cedars.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
· Working in collaboration with the Executive Chef, Prep Cooks are responsible for prepping, preparing, cooking and serving meals for the patient populations.
· Adhering to the rotating weekly menus prepared by the Executive Chef.
· Ensuring that health and safety requirements are met in alignment with Foodsafe and health authority guidelines.
· Participate in daily sanitation measures, dishwashing, and equipment cleaning.
· Receive and process daily orders, provide production sheets and record meal counts.
· Engage with the patient experience by understanding and supporting the dietary needs and preferences of the patient population.
· Foster a collaborative and positive environment in the kitchen that reflects Cedars’ commitment to holistic care and recovery.
Food Preparation and Service::
o Collaborate in prepping, preparing, and serving meals to patients and staff.
o Ensure food is prepared safely and in alignment with established Foodsafe and health authority guidelines.
Sanitation and Health Standards:
o Ensure the kitchen meets all health and safety requirements, with a focus on maintaining food safety standards.
o Participate in daily sanitation routines, including equipment cleaning and adherence to cleanliness protocols.
Patient-Centered Approach:
o Engage with the patient experience by understanding and supporting the dietary needs and preferences of the patient population.
o Foster a collaborative and positive environment in the kitchen that reflects Cedars’ commitment to holistic care and recovery.
QUALIFICATIONS & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
· Experience working in a fast-paced high-volume kitchen (1 year preferred)
· Valid Food Safe Certification.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with the various departments involved in the patient treatment process.
· Ability to collaborate and problem solve with other team members including counseling, medical, administrative, and support staff.
· A commitment to creating a positive environment conducive to healing for both patients and staff.
· Three-month probationary period
· Annual performance review
· Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check Required
· Statutory holidays as per the BC Employment Standards Act (BCESA)
· Will conduct themselves according to the Employee Code of Conduct including maintaining professional boundaries at all times.
· Employees who identify as being in recovery will need to be engaged in a program of recovery and substance free for a minimum of one (1) year.
