About the Opportunity
Our client, a well-established organization in Ottawa, is seeking an Accountant to join their team.
This role plays a key role in supporting the organization’s financial operations and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. This position is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting functions, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting budgeting and audit processes.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Oversee and manage daily accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
Process invoices and purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and proper authorization
Maintain accurate financial records and coding within the accounting system
Manage vendor payments and payment runs
Complete month-end and year-end close processes, including bank reconciliations
Prepare financial statements and reports for management and stakeholders
Support the annual budgeting process and monitor budget-to-actual performance
Administer billing processes and track incoming payments
Prepare and file HST returns
Oversee payroll processes administered through a third-party provider
Support the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors
Provide guidance on financial policies and procedures
Recommend improvements to processes, systems, and internal controls
Ensure financial policies and documentation are maintained and up to date
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum 5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience (not-for-profit experience considered an asset)
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
Advanced Excel skills and strong Microsoft Office proficiency
Solid understanding of Canadian GAAP and financial reporting requirements
Strong analytical and financial reporting skills
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
High attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities
About the Job
Hourly Rate: $35.00 to $38.00/hour (depending on experience)
