Position Overview
Sparkes Subsea Construction is seeking an experienced Operations Manager / Commercial Diving Supervisor to take responsibility for the day-to-day management of our commercial diving operations.
This is not strictly an office position or strictly a field position. The role combines operations management, project planning, crew leadership, client communication and active supervision of commercial diving projects.
We are looking for someone capable of taking ownership of projects from initial planning through execution and closeout. The right candidate will have the authority and responsibility required to organize crews, maintain operational standards, solve problems and keep projects moving safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the commercial diving division.
- Act as the primary manager and point of contact for dive supervisors, divers, tenders and other field personnel.
- Supervise commercial diving projects and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and according to scope.
- Lead project preparation, including crew selection, scheduling, equipment loadouts, logistics and mobilization planning.
- Review project requirements, drawings, specifications, procedures and client expectations before mobilization.
- Coordinate personnel, vessels, vehicles, diving systems, tools and subcontractors.
- Conduct or oversee pre-job meetings, hazard assessments, dive plans and operational documentation.
- Monitor project schedules, productivity, equipment requirements and job costs.
- Maintain regular communication with clients before, during and after projects.
- Prepare daily reports, project records, field documentation and information required for invoicing and project closeout.
- Ensure compliance with applicable commercial diving regulations, CSA standards, client requirements and company policies.
- Support the development and maintenance of operational procedures, safety documentation and quality-control systems.
- Manage employee performance, address operational issues and maintain clear accountability within the dive team.
- Mentor supervisors, divers and tenders to support professional development and stronger teamwork.
- Coordinate equipment readiness, maintenance priorities and repairs with shop personnel.
- Assist with estimating, proposals, scheduling and planning for upcoming projects.
- Identify opportunities for company growth, improved efficiency and new services.
Qualifications and Experience
- Significant commercial diving experience, including experience supervising surface-supplied diving operations.

- Strong working knowledge of commercial diving regulations, CSA requirements and industry best practices.
- Demonstrated experience leading dive crews and managing field operations.
- Experience with project planning, logistics, scheduling and equipment coordination.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to set expectations and hold personnel accountable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working with computers, email, project documents, schedules and reporting systems.
- Ability to review drawings, specifications, work procedures and project scopes.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel for projects.
- Ability to work from our Corner Brook office and attend project sites as required.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience.
- Profit-sharing opportunity based on company performance.
- Vision, dental and extended healthcare benefits.
- Temporary housing to assist qualified candidates relocating to Corner Brook.
- A combination of office leadership and hands-on field involvement.
- Opportunities to help shape the company’s systems, services and future growth.
- Work with an established commercial diving and marine construction company operating throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and Atlantic Canada.
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced commercial diving professional who is ready to move into a broader operational leadership position. They can manage people, plan projects, communicate with clients and step into the field as a competent dive supervisor when required.
They are organized, accountable and comfortable making decisions. They understand that good operations management means preparing crews properly, maintaining high safety standards, completing documentation and dealing with issues before they become larger problems.
This position is intended for someone who wants to become a key member of the company’s management team, not someone looking only for their next diving rotation.
