Smart Stitch is a busy, well-established tailoring and alterations shop in Kanata with over 20 years of serving the Ottawa community. As our business continues to grow, we're looking for a skilled and reliable Part-Time Seamstress to join our team, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time position for the right candidate.
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Seamstress/Tailor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for altering and repairing garments to meet customer specifications and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform clothing alterations and repairs with precision
- Hem pants, skirts, dresses, and formal wear
- Alter suits, jackets, bridal gowns, and special occasion garments
- Work directly with customers during fittings and provide excellent service
- Maintain high-quality workmanship and attention to detail
- Keep the workspace clean and organized
- Measure clients accurately to determine tailoring needs and ensure proper fit
- Communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs and provide advice on fabric choices and fit options
Skills
- Previous experience as a seamstress, tailor, or alterations specialist
- Proficiency in sewing techniques with experience using industrial or domestic sewing machines
- Strong attention to detail and precision in measurements and stitching
- Basic math skills for accurate measurements, pattern adjustments, and calculations
- Good communication skills (English) for understanding client needs and providing professional recommendations
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks effectively

Schedule
- Part-time (approximately 24–40 hours per week)
- Weekend availability is preferred
