Role Description
The “E” in employment is the E in our HELPS model: Skill development through partnerships with work placement and training agencies.
The Employment Readiness Coordinator serves as a mentor and ambassador of Rising Above's mission by helping participants develop purpose, responsibility, work readiness, and community connections within a Christ-centred recovery environment. Through structured work experiences, mentoring, and community engagement, this position helps participants transition successfully into employment and strengthens community connections. Many individuals who come to Rising Above are with limited job experience, making it difficult to complete the program requirements of 12 hours of volunteer/employment a week, which grows to full-time or academics by month 5. Building one skill at a time, one week at a time, participants can flourish with purpose, discover the fullness of their capabilities, and establish financial sustainability beyond the program.
This role is in a re-development stage with work teams, maintenance projects, volunteering and business partnerships, with the goal of establishing a social enterprise structure over 3 years.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Mentorship
- Encourage participants to develop healthy work habits, personal responsibility, servant leadership, and confidence consistent with the values of the H.E.L.P.S. model.
- Provide basic classroom job readiness training.
- Deliver project-specific safety and skill training.
- Mentor participants through shadowing and hands-on guidance.
Assessment & Placement
- Complete skills and readiness assessments for each participant.
- Assign participants to project teams, refer to local business, and create new opportunities for rising above to invest in the future of participants with social enterprise endeavours.
Program Oversight & Monitoring
- Review participant performance and stress capacity weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly depending on their program stage.
- Provide updates on participants’ progress to case managers accordingly.
- Collect participant stories to document personal growth and program impact.
Community Engagement & Development
- Build partnerships with local businesses, churches, volunteers, and community organisations that support participant recovery, employment readiness, and long-term success.
- Market program services in collaboration with communications staff.
- Expand community-based work placements, volunteering and eventual social enterprise opportunities
- Recruit and train volunteers to mentor participants, in work projects but in life and recovery, as well as other opportunities with Rising Above (Instructors, Inner Healing, resources, etc.).
- Promote Rising Above’s reputation and mission through excellent service delivery.
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure all documentation and reporting are updated in participant files or databases per policy.
- Prepare program impact and grant compliance reports.
- Ensure the program operates in alignment with safety protocols and Rising Above policies.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with case managers, therapists, and recovery staff to ensure holistic participant support.
- Partner with the Maintenance Facilitator to align property needs with participant projects.
- Collaborate with financial/admin staff on grant applications and compliance.

- Represent the ministry's mission and recovery philosophy through employment readiness programming, social enterprise initiatives, and community engagement.
Qualifications
- Strong alignment Rising Above’s Christian mission and values.
- Experience in workforce development, vocational training, or social enterprise preferred.
- Knowledge of addiction recovery processes and trauma-informed care.
- Strong communication, mentoring, and conflict resolution skills.
- Entrepreneurial in projects and social enterprise initiatives
- Ability to manage documentation, reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Organized, adaptable, and team-oriented.
