The Mood Disorders Association of British Columbia (MDABC), a division of Lookout Housing and Health Society, is seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Clinical Counsellor to join our growing team of mental health professionals.
MDABC provides evidence-informed counselling, psychiatric services, psychoeducation, peer support, and community-based mental health programming to individuals living with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, substance use concerns, trauma, and other mental health challenges.

This flexible contract position is ideal for a clinician who is building a private practice or seeking additional part-time hours.
Role Summary
The Registered Clinical Counsellor provides both individual counselling and group counselling to adults experiencing mental health and/or substance use concerns. Counsellors may provide services from the MDABC office, virtually, or within community partner locations depending on program needs.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with clinical leadership, community partners, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual counselling sessions using evidence-informed therapeutic approaches.
- Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups for adults experiencing mental health and substance use concerns.
- Support clients in identifying strengths, building coping strategies, and achieving treatment goals.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical documentation using the organization's electronic medical record.
- Participate in case consultation, clinical supervision, and interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Collaborate with clinical director, social workers, peer support staff, and community agencies.
- Maintain professional standards, ethical practice, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable legislation.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a related discipline.
- Current registration and good standing with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), or another recognized professional regulatory body acceptable to MDABC.
- Experience providing individual psychotherapy and/or facilitating psychoeducational or therapeutic groups.
- Strong assessment, risk management, and clinical documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Current Occupational First Aid Level 1 (or willingness to obtain).
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with experience or training in one or more of the following:
- Trauma-informed practice
- Somatic therapies
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Mindfulness-based interventions
- Motivational Interviewing
- Concurrent mental health and substance use treatment
- Working with diverse, Indigenous, LGBTQ2S+, newcomer, and culturally diverse communities
Experience using electronic health records (CHR/TELUS Health or similar) is considered an asset.
