About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Composite Technician to join our production team. In this role, you will contribute to a workplace culture centered around safety, quality, teamwork, and accountability, supporting the manufacturing of advanced composite components.
Key Responsibilities
Material Preparation & Kitting
- Prepare and organize raw materials such as carbon fiber, fiberglass prepregs, adhesive films, and honeycomb core according to work instructions and specifications.
- Operate cutting equipment and perform manual cutting where required.
- Store and manage materials appropriately, including freezer handling when necessary.
- Deliver prepared kits to various production areas efficiently.
Composite Layup
- Perform hand layup of composite materials on molds and tooling following detailed instructions.
- Complete tasks such as mold preparation, material handling, vacuum bagging, and minor repairs.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency throughout the layup process.
Curing Operations (Oven/Autoclave)
- Load and unload ovens and autoclaves for curing processes.
- Operate computerized curing equipment and monitor cycles based on established parameters.
- Maintain associated tools and equipment (e.g., vacuum hoses, thermocouples).
Demolding & Inspection
- Remove cured parts from molds and inspect for quality and defects.
- Safely move tooling between production stages or storage.
- Perform basic tool inspections and flag any repair or maintenance needs.
- Conduct preliminary quality checks and document findings.
Additional Duties
- Perform repairs on composite parts as required.
- Identify and report non-conforming materials or production issues.
- Accurately record production and inspection data.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and new program launches.
- Assist with training and mentoring less experienced technicians.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, especially for sensitive materials.
- Follow all safety protocols and consistently use required PPE.
Qualifications
- High school diploma (Grade 12) required.
- Post-secondary education in composites, mechanical, or a related field is an asset.
- Minimum of 1–3 years of relevant experience in composite manufacturing or mechanical work.
- Strong attention to detail and quality standards.
- Ability to read and follow technical instructions or blueprints.
- Comfortable using hand tools, cutting equipment, and production machinery.
- Basic math skills (fractions, decimals, measurements).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong manual dexterity and coordination.
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a production environment with PPE.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
