About the Role
Maven Transport Ltd. is looking for a motivated and eager-to-learn individual to join our team as a Junior Dispatcher.
This is a junior-level position designed for someone who wants to build their knowledge within the trucking and transportation industry, with a focus on open deck cross-border transportation. The successful candidate will learn the business from the ground up, starting with administrative tasks and driver dispatching, while gaining hands-on exposure to how freight moves across Canada and the United States.
Within a few weeks, the role will also include internal sales responsibilities focused on maximizing company asset utilization by helping identify freight opportunities for available trucks, trailers, and drivers.
Over time, this role is intended to grow with the individual. The ideal candidate would be someone who wants to develop their understanding of trucking and eventually grow within the organization into a role in sales, compliance, or operations.
The candidate does not need to know everything on day one. We are looking for someone who is organized, reliable, willing to learn, and interested in building a long-term career in the trucking industry.
Key Responsibilities
Dispatch and Driver Support
The Junior Dispatcher will assist with the daily coordination of drivers, trucks, and shipments. Responsibilities may include:
- Communicating with drivers regarding load details, pickup times, delivery appointments, and route information.
- Assisting with dispatching drivers on assigned shipments.
- Monitoring driver updates and helping ensure shipments stay on schedule.
- Supporting the operations team with driver check-ins and daily status updates.
- Helping ensure drivers have the proper paperwork, permits, and instructions before leaving on a trip.
- Escalating delays, equipment concerns, service issues, or customer-related matters to senior team members.
Administrative and Documentation Support
This role will include a strong administrative component, especially during the training period. Responsibilities may include:
- Preparing and organizing oversized and overweight permits.
- Assisting with border clearance documents.
- Filing and tracking bond paperwork.
- Reviewing load information for accuracy before dispatch.
- Organizing bills of lading, rate confirmations, customs documents, permits, and delivery paperwork.
- Updating internal systems with shipment notes, driver updates, and document status.
- Following up on missing paperwork from drivers, customers, or internal team members.
- Maintaining organized electronic and paper files for active and completed shipments.
- Assisting with other administrative and operational tasks as required.
Internal Sales to Maximize Asset Utilization
Within a few weeks, the role will expand to include internal sales responsibilities with the goal of maximizing company asset utilization.
This means helping ensure available trucks, trailers, and drivers are being used efficiently by identifying freight opportunities, supporting customer communication, and assisting the operations team with keeping equipment moving.
Responsibilities may include:
- Reviewing available trucks, trailers, and driver capacity.
- Helping identify freight opportunities that fit available company equipment.
- Communicating with customers, brokers, and internal team members regarding available capacity.
- Assisting with quoting freight under the guidance of senior staff.
- Helping reduce empty miles by identifying reloads or return freight opportunities.
- Learning how to match freight with the correct equipment type.
- Supporting the team in keeping company assets moving efficiently.
- Helping identify opportunities to improve truck, trailer, and driver utilization.
What You Will Learn
This position is designed to provide hands-on exposure to trucking from the ground up, including:
- Open deck transportation.
- Canada–USA cross-border freight.
- Oversized and overweight freight requirements.
- Permits, customs paperwork, bond documents, and border processes.
- Driver dispatching and communication.
- Freight quoting and internal sales.
- Customer service in a transportation environment.
- Compliance, safety, and operational best practices.
- How to manage freight from pickup to delivery.

- Has an interest in logistics, trucking, business, sales, compliance, or operations.
Qualifications
- Previous trucking or logistics experience is an asset, but not required.
- Strong computer skills are required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, or transportation software is an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and follow instructions.
- High attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn trucking operations from the ground up.
