The Senior Manager, Equipment & Maintenance is a strategic leadership role responsible for defining and executing the company’s equipment and maintenance strategy. This role focuses on optimizing equipment lifecycle performance, cost efficiency, and operational reliability across the organization.
The role is accountable for establishing programs, systems, and performance frameworks, enabling data-driven decision-making and supporting long-term business objectives. This role is focused on strategy, systems, and performance oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads strategy and performance for the company’s equipment and maintenance function across all operations.
- Owns long-term planning, performance frameworks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and implement programs for preventative, proactive and predictive maintenance, maximizing the longevity and reliability of equipment and supporting overall operational performance.
- Provide direction, leadership, and coaching to the equipment and maintenance team, driving accountability and supporting cross‑training, safety performance, productivity, and employee development.
- Lead initiatives across all fleet equipment, ensuring projects are documented, tracked, economically justified, and deliver measurable operational benefits.
- Own specifications for new equipment purchases and internally built equipment, ensuring suitability for production, safety, and long‑term maintainability.
- Ensure all fleet‑related documentation is developed, maintained, and accessible, including equipment drawings, work instructions, customization records, and procurement lists required to bring new equipment to production‑ready status.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements related to fleet vehicles and equipment, including inspections, licensing, insurance, permitting, and safety standards.
- Lead the investigation and documentation of equipment failures, near misses, and field performance issues, using data and metrics to drive improvements.
- Define and implement performance frameworks to measure equipment reliability, utilization, and lifecycle cost.
- Oversee fabrication activities, ensuring all internally fabricated or modified equipment meets internal quality standards and documentation requirements.
- Own and manage KPIs (downtime reduction, lifecycle cost performance, and more) to provide ongoing analysis and reports to support data‑driven decision‑making.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action plans for recurring equipment failures, ensuring sustainable solutions are implemented.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to the equipment and maintenance team, reinforcing a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Lead capital planning and equipment investment decisions based on operational and financial data.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in Engineering, with Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Proven leadership skills with at least 5 years in a management role, such as Fleet Supervisor, Maintenance Manager, or similar
- Demonstrated experience using data, KPIs, and performance & financial metrics to drive decision-making.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to establish, own, and monitor performance metrics to assess departmental effectiveness and drive improvement.
- Effective relationship‑building skills, representing the company with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to support operational, commercial, and strategic objectives.
- Expertise in equipment documentation systems, including work instructions, service reports, manuals, drawings, and equipment records.
- Strong ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams to align priorities and deliver results.
- Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) certification is considered an asset
- Ability to read and understand P&ID drawings
- Familiarity with heavy equipment in industrial, manufacturing or construction environments
- Experience managing budgets, forecasting maintenance costs, and optimizing equipment-related spend is preferred
