Job Summary
The Pederson Group has been retained by an architectural client to conduct a search for a Managing Partner to lead their strategic design direction and oversee multi-family residential projects. This position is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Their integrated approach ensures architectural vision and construction execution are aligned from the start, resulting in efficient delivery and well-designed living spaces that meet the needs of both residents and development partners.
As both a design principal and business leader, the Managing Partner will ensure every project achieves design excellence, strong functionality and smooth constructability. This role oversees a team of project architects while also leading research and development initiatives to advance design innovation and technical excellence.
Responsibilities
Business Leadership:
- Oversee firm operations, staffing and resource planning.
Design Vision & Oversight:
- Lead the architectural vision and design standards for all multi-family projects.
- Review and provide feedback on design concepts, construction documentation and technical detailing.
- Guide project architects through key design stages from concept to construction.
- Oversee design reviews for alignment with client, municipal and construction requirements.
- Provide hands-on leadership through feasibility, approvals and construction phases.
- Support design-build and value-engineering while maintaining design integrity and meeting targets.
- Direct quality assurance and control across drawing packages.
- Lead post-occupancy reviews and continuous improvement initiatives to improve design standards.
Team Management:
- Lead and mentor Project Architects and the Lead Concept Designer.
- Foster a collaborative and growth-oriented studio culture.
- Provide assistance to the project architects regarding technical detailing and consultant coordination as required.
- Support career development and performance reviews for direct reports.
- Oversee internal design standards, templates and workflows, ensuring consistency across projects and teams.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Represent the design practice with clients, development teams and construction partners.
- Participate in project meetings, approvals and strategic discussions.
- Ensure clear communication and strong alignment between design and construction teams.
- Maintain productive relationships with municipal authorities to support approvals.
- Build and sustain strong consultant partnerships across all disciplines.
- Translate development and construction priorities into clear design direction.
Research & Development:
- Identify and implement design innovation, sustainability initiatives, new processes and technology.
- Champion the use of new technologies including parametric design and AI workflows to aid in scalability.
- Promote continuous improvement in design practices, BIM standards and sustainability initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Studio/BIM Manager to refine templates, checklists and QA/QC protocols.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in architecture, engineering, drafting or a related field.
- Licensed Architect with registration in a Canadian provincial association.
- Minimum of 10 years working in architecture.
- Experience in a senior project management or leadership role is considered an asset.
- Proficient using BIM/Revit workflows and coordination with construction management platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is an asset.
- Proven ability to manage teams, budgets and schedules across multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong working knowledge of wood-frame, concrete and hybrid construction systems.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience in design-build or integrated delivery environments is preferred.
- Previous experience in municipal approvals and rezoning processes.
- Manage project schedules, budgets and profitability.
- Represent the firm to clients, consultants and external partners.
- Support long-term strategic planning and business development.
- Develop and monitor KPIs for design quality, efficiency and client satisfaction.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $140,000.00-$160,000.00 per year
