Role Summary
As a manufacturer’s Design Draftsman / Production Coordinator, the position will support, maintain and coordinate project workflows and support communication with external/internal stakeholders to produce accurate end product that meets our customers’ needs. The Design Draftsman / Production Coordinator will coordinate design information into clear, buildable documents and drawings, with measurable cost of components. The position will partner with the Design Team Processes that include professional and component suppliers’ input and incorporate this into National Trailer’s design and production processes. Work with National Trailer’s manufacturing standards and internal team members to ensure projects are manufactured correctly, efficiently, and consistently. Work within National Trailer’s Quality Control Systems (CSA A277-16, Part 10, ISO 9001, CWB, COR, and other applicable Building codes and protocols). Included are review and general administrative and record keeping functions and distribution of project documentation to both internal and external partners as directed. In addition, the Design Draftsman / Production Coordinator also assists with the estimating process and tender preparations.
Key Responsibilities
Manage document revisions and file organization in an electronic format that includes Internal SharePoint Website, and Microsoft Teams Environment: Track and update Documents revisions, maintain organized document archives, and ensure released files are current. Comply with ISO 9001 Document Standards.
Translate Design Team and stakeholders into buildable outputs: Convert sketches, CAD models, and specifications into standardized shop/fabrication drawing sets.
Coordinate: Liaise with production, Design Team, and Sales to resolve design-for-manufacture issues and incorporate feedback.
Produce production drawings: Create detailed, dimensioned plans, elevations, sections, and assembly drawings used by fabrication/assembly teams.
Quality control: Check drawings for accuracy, completeness, drawing standards compliance, and internal build requirements before release.
Create sales-ready drawings: Prepare clean, annotated layout drawings, render-ready plans, and presentation materials for client proposals.
Support quoting and estimating: Provide drawing-based input for material quantities, scope confirmation, and cost-relevant clarifications when needed.
Develop documentation that supports manufacturing: Bill of materials (BOM) and cut lists (as required), component schedules, part numbering support, basic fabrication/assembly notes, and reference details.
Apply company CAD and drawing standards: Use established layers, title blocks, scale conventions, and revision control formats.
Assist with QA/QC inspections and updating
Required Qualifications and Skills
Proven experience working within a Production orientated environment with focus on Communication, Document Control, Drafting, CAD technician, or similar role with a focus on production requirements and sales drawings.
Proficiency in CAD software such as Autocad, BricsCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, or equivalent; ability to produce 2D layouts.
Strong technical drawing skills including dimensioning, tolerancing, and annotation.
Understanding of manufacturing production processes relevant to the commercial construction industry.
Attention to detail and strong spatial visualization skills.
Good communication skills for collaborating with Design Team, Production Team, and Sales Teams.
Organizational skills and experience with file management and revision control.
Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple drawing requests simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
Diploma or certificate in Architectural Technology, Drafting, or related field.
Familiarity with Autocad, BricsCAD.
Basic knowledge of building codes, materials, and manufacturing tolerances.
Experience with Microsoft software suite.
