We are a design-build company specializing in residential additions, custom homes, and major renovations. We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Interior Designer who combines strong professional design skills, excellent client communication, and the ability to independently close sales.
This role involves more than design work. The successful candidate will independently manage company-provided leads and take full ownership of each opportunity, from the initial client conversation through design development, pricing, presentation, follow-up, and contract signing.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently follow up with potential clients provided by the company, including phone communication, appointment scheduling, in-home meetings, needs assessment, and ongoing follow-up.
- Independently complete site measurements, space planning, concept design, material selection, and design presentations.
- Develop practical renovation solutions and preliminary quotations based on the client’s needs, priorities, and budget.
- Clearly explain design concepts, construction scope, material selections, budget, and project process to clients.
- Independently address client concerns, revise proposals, and successfully close and sign contracts.
- Coordinate a smooth project handover to the construction, engineering, and project management teams after signing, and provide necessary design support during project execution.
- Manage client relationships and help ensure design quality and customer satisfaction throughout the project.
- Maintain organized records of personal project experience, design portfolios, and signed contracts.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years of residential interior design experience, with strong skills in space planning, material coordination, and practical design execution.
- Strong knowledge of commonly used renovation materials, local suppliers, construction methods, and approximate building costs in the Greater Toronto Area.
- Proven experience working directly with clients and successfully closing sales, with the ability to independently guide clients from the initial consultation through final contract signing.
- Must have independently completed at least 8 residential design projects per year, including home additions, custom homes, and major renovations.
- Must provide a portfolio and project examples that were independently led and completed by the applicant. Projects in which the applicant only provided supporting design assistance will not be considered.
- Must have the ability to independently close projects. Once the company provides a lead, the candidate must be able to manage the full process, including phone communication, appointment scheduling, site meetings, needs analysis, design development, quotation preparation, presentation, follow-up, and contract signing.
- Ability to read and understand architectural drawings, floor plans, elevations, and basic structural drawings. Basic knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, zoning requirements, and the building permit process is required.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and at least one professional 3D rendering program. Must be able to prepare clear, professional, and sales-oriented design presentations.
- Strong budget awareness, with the ability to balance design quality, material selections, and construction costs within the client’s budget.
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and customer service skills.
- Self-motivated, responsible, and able to manage multiple clients and design projects while meeting deadlines.
- Fluent English communication is required. Mandarin or Cantonese is considered an asset.
- A valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle are required for travel to client homes and project sites.
