Overview
The Youth Centre Program Assistant (Part-Time) supports the delivery of engaging, safe, and culturally respectful programs for youth attending The Trek Youth Centre in Chetwynd, BC. Working closely with the Youth Centre Program Team Lead and Youth Program Facilitators, this position assists with daily programming, recreational activities, community events, and youth engagement initiatives.
The successful candidate will be energetic, adaptable, creative, and passionate about supporting youth wellness and healthy active lifestyles. They will help create a welcoming and inclusive environment where youth feel safe, supported, and encouraged to participate in positive recreational and social experiences.
This is a part-time position scheduled for 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, primarily from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Hours may vary occasionally to support special events, outings, community activities, and seasonal programming.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, preparation, setup, and delivery of youth programs and activities.
- Support indoor and outdoor recreational activities including sports, games, arts and crafts, cultural programming, and special events.
- Help facilitate group activities while encouraging participation, teamwork, and positive social interaction.
- Adapt activities to meet the interests, ages, abilities, and attendance levels of participating youth.
- Create and lead spontaneous activities that keep youth engaged, active, and connected.
- Build positive and respectful relationships with youth and serve as a positive role model.
- Promote healthy lifestyles, personal growth, inclusion, and respectful behaviour.
- Assist with supervision of youth during programs, field trips, outings, and community events.
- Support program promotion and participant engagement initiatives.
- Maintain program supplies, equipment, and activity spaces in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
- Monitor activities and report incidents, concerns, or safety issues to the Youth Centre Program Team Lead.
- Work collaboratively with Youth Centre staff, volunteers, community partners, and program facilitators.
- Assist with attendance tracking and program documentation as required.
- Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Any other duties as required.
Ideal Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience working with youth, recreation programs, camps, schools, sports, or community-based programming is considered an asset.
- Experience facilitating recreational, educational, cultural, or wellness activities is considered an asset.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certification is considered an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence is considered an asset.
- Successful completion of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening as a condition of employment.

Work Conditions
- Work is performed primarily at The Trek Youth Centre in Chetwynd, BC.
- Schedule is Monday to Friday, primarily from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or special event work may be required.
- Frequent participation in recreational, sports, and outdoor activities.
- Regular standing, walking, lifting, and active involvement in programming.
- Travel may be required for community activities, outings, and field trips.
- Work involves direct interaction with youth in both individual and group settings.
- Wage Range: $25.04-$27.43
Pay: $25.04-$27.43 per hour
