We are currently seeking an experienced and dependable Shop Mechanic to join our team and help keep our fleet and equipment operating safely and efficiently.
Position Summary
The Shop Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of construction equipment, tools, trailers, ride-on and walk-behind power trowels, and company vehicles. This position plays a critical role in minimizing downtime by ensuring equipment is properly serviced, organized, and ready for deployment to job sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on construction equipment and vehicles.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine issues.
- Repair and maintain small engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and other powered equipment.
- Service and maintain company trucks, trailers, forklifts, and other fleet vehicles as required.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain concrete formwork equipment and related jobsite tools.
- Weld and fabricate minor repairs to equipment, racks, trailers, and shop fixtures.
- Replace worn or damaged components including brakes, bearings, hoses, belts, filters, batteries, tires, and hydraulic components.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
- Coordinate equipment servicing schedules to minimize downtime.
- Keep the shop clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
- Manage shop inventory, including parts, consumables, and maintenance supplies.
- Receive, inspect, and organize incoming equipment and materials.
- Load and unload equipment for transport when required.
- Assist with emergency equipment repairs to support active construction projects.
- Communicate equipment concerns and repair recommendations to management.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations and company safety policies.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a mechanic in the construction, heavy equipment, fleet maintenance, or related industry.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working with diesel and gasoline engines.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Welding and fabrication experience is considered a strong asset.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence (clean driver's abstract preferred).
- Forklift certification is an asset.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while also supporting a team environment.
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented.
- Fluent in English is a must
