Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and strategic direction of the New Found Gold Corp. Operations. This role provides leadership across all project, operational and support functions, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of the Queensway Phase II project development, and future mining and milling activities while fostering a high-performance culture aligned with corporate objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction for all Queensway phase II project development including operations, geology, engineering, maintenance, construction and operational readiness activities.
- Develop and execute annual operating plans, capital plans, workforce plans, and budgets aligned with corporate strategy and project milestones.
- Ensure the project achieves safety, environmental, operational, and financial objectives while maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Lead the development of a positive, accountable, and high-performing culture that prioritizes safety, teamwork, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Provide strategic oversight to geological, engineering, and operational teams to ensure exploration activities support long-term mine development objectives.
- Oversee resource development activities, including drilling strategies, resource modelling, grade control, and reserve growth.
- Direct the negotiation and management of major service contracts, including drilling, construction, mining, and technical consulting services.
- Monitor project performance through key operational and financial metrics, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Participate in the preparation of quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, life-of-mine planning, and long-term business strategies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities, government agencies, regulators, contractors, consultants, and local stakeholders.
- Develop organizational capability through effective succession planning, leadership development, workforce planning, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Lead the performance management process for direct reports by providing coaching, mentorship, and regular performance feedback.
- Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies to support safe, sustainable, and efficient project execution.
- Represent the Queensway Project with executive leadership, the Board of Directors, investors, regulators, and external stakeholders as required.
- Perform other duties consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the position.
What you bring to the Field:
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, Metallurgical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional designation such as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) is preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in the mining industry, including at least 5 years in a senior operational leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience leading exploration, mine development, construction, or mining operations.
- Proven success managing large multidisciplinary teams and complex operational budgets.
- Experience in project development, organizational growth, and operational start-up is considered a strong asset.
- Strong understanding of mineral resource development, mine planning, project execution, health and safety, environmental compliance, and financial management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working with executive leadership, Boards of Directors, Indigenous communities, government regulators, and external partners.
