Position Overview
The Welland Museum is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented person to support a major collections management project focused on the museum’s textile collection. Under the supervision of the Collection Manager, the intern will work hands-on with the collection o improve documentation, digitization, housing, and long-term preservation.
This position offers meaningful, practical experience in museum collections management and preventive conservation, and is ideal for a recent graduate pursuing a career in museums, archives, or cultural heritage.
Key Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Collection Manager, the intern will:
-Conduct condition assessments of textile artifacts
-Safely handle, organize, and rehouse textiles using conservation-grade materials
-Update and maintain accurate records in the museum’s collections management database
-Assist with cataloguing, labeling, and organization of textile storage areas
-Conduct historical and material research to support accurate documentation
-Support preparation of select textile for exhibition or educational use
-Track progress and contribute to project reporting as required
Skills
-Museum-standard artifact handling and preventive conservation
-Condition reporting and collections documentation
-Use of collections management databases
-Research and interpretation of material culture
-Professional communication and project organization
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will:
-A graduate in Museum Studies, History, Art History, Heritage Conservation, Archival Studies, or a related field
-Have strong attention to detail and organizational skills
-Be comfortable working with delicate materials and following handling guidelines
-Have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software
-Be able to work independently while collaborating with museum staff
-Demonstrate interest in museum collections and heritage preservation

Position Details
Full-time temporary contract until January 2027.
$19.00 per hour.
