Driver Trainer / School Bus Driver
Standard Bus Contracting is currently seeking a Driver Trainer to join our team. You will be responsible for the effective training of new employees and the continued education of current drivers. A high attention to detail, exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills, and a focus on the continuous improvement of safe driving skills are key to success in this role. This position requires an ability to communicate well with tact and diplomacy in confidential matters.
This position requires fulfilling training duties in between a regular AM/PM school bus run. Training takes place Monday to Friday from 9 am to 2 pm.
Wage: $28.87 per hour for training and $28.12 per hour for driving
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct daily classroom sessions and provide effective Class 2 school bus training to new trainees
- Provide continuous education and improvement of current drivers to further develop skills as a School Bus Driver
- Prepare information packages for new trainees and submit training and trainer reports
- Ensure compliance of safety rules, policies, procedures, and government regulations
- Participate and assist in incident investigations and ensure accuracy in file management and reporting
- Maintain precise and up-to-date paperwork and training progress
- Be accessible to drivers with any questions or concerns they may have with training and development
- Drive a designated school bus route and be flexible to provide route coverage as needed
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Valid Class 1 or 2 driver's license with air brake endorsement
- Minimum three (3) years of commercial driving experience
- Maintain a clear 5-year commercial driver’s abstract and criminal record
- Previous experience in a school bus operation, commercial driving, or transportation industry
- Post-secondary education and/or training in leadership or management considered an asset
- Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) busing related safety legislation and regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; comfortable learning new applications, including internally developed software
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity in all interactions
