Senior Accountant – Commodities Trading

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing commodities trading company. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full accounting cycle, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting the company's financial operations.
This role requires a hands-on accounting professional with strong analytical skills, proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel, and a thorough understanding of end-to-end accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the complete accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
- Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Monitor cash flow and assist with treasury management.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and applicable regulations.
- Assist with process improvements and implementation of internal controls.
- Work closely with trading and operations teams to ensure accurate recording of commodity purchase and sales transactions.
- Provide support for ad hoc financial reporting and special projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or equivalent professional accounting designation is an asset.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within commodities trading, wholesale distribution, logistics, or a similar industry.
- Strong knowledge of end-to-end accounting processes.
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including SUMIFS, and financial reporting.
- Excellent understanding of financial statements and accounting principles.
- Experience with inventory accounting and multi-entity accounting is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
