This position requires strong leadership / attention to detail and judgment as well as an exceptional ability to organize, plan, and anticipate potential adversity. The ideal candidate will have strong drilling experience (specifically HDD). Applicants with a thorough understanding of geotechnical stabilization as well as heavy equipment operation, ground support, or heavy-duty mechanics may be given preference.
This role requires technical expertise, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work in remote and challenging conditions. The ideal candidate will be expected to uphold BAT Construction's core values of Safety-Driven, Integrity, Flexibility, Quality, and Team Spirit. This candidate will be responsible for, and have proven experience in the following:
- Verify location, angle, and depth of drill locations before drilling and confirm it is safe to move forward with the process
- Perform daily and routine maintenance on equipment to ensure safety and functionality
- Check gauges, monitor drilling condition and pay close attention to equipment to decide if it needs to be altered or adjusted during drilling
- Complete drilling and anchor installation logs
- Ensure all drilling is being completed safely as per regulations, drawings, designs, and special provisions
- Use knowledge of soil or rock conditions to determine which drilling equipment is appropriate for each job
- Stop, start, and control machine drilling speed and align as well as position drills to stabilize machines
- Regulate downward pressure, rotary speed, and air pressure, depending on the type of material the drill is moving through. Changing procedures and settings for each individual job as needed
- Bore or drill holes in rock for grouting, anchoring, blasting, or building foundations, working with other members of the crew to ensure accuracy and safety
- Follow all protocol and standard operating procedures to guarantee safety and compliance on the job site and keep team members safe from injury
- Position and assemble casing pipes, augers, machines and other equipment with the appropriate hand and power tools
- Cap and mark all open bore holes
- Direct and train drilling swampers
Camp Job: at CNRL Horizon - food and accommodations provided while on rotation
Rotation: 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off, 12 hour (5% pay premium for night shifts)
Travel: Flight booked and paid for from Calgary or Edmonton Airport
