Registered Veterinary Technician (Part-Time) — North York, ON

Role Summary
Provide veterinary nursing support to veterinarians by assisting with appointments, surgeries, diagnostics, patient care, client education, and hospital operations.
Main Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care (Majority of Role)
- Assist veterinarians during surgeries, dentistry, and procedures
- Provide nursing care for hospitalized and boarding animals
- Administer medications and treatments
- Monitor critical/intensive care patients
- Educate clients on wellness, prevention, medications, and aftercare
Diagnostics & Laboratory
- Perform in-house lab testing (bloodwork, urinalysis, parasite tests, cytology, etc.)
- Collect, prepare, and submit samples to external labs
- Maintain lab equipment quality control and records
- Report diagnostic results to veterinarians
Surgery & Anesthesia
- Prepare surgical rooms, instruments, and supplies
- Assist with restraint, induction, intubation, and surgical procedures
- Monitor anesthesia using equipment (ECG, pulse oximeter, etc.)
- Process and maintain surgical records
- Clean and sterilize surgical equipment
Dentistry
- Perform dental cleanings, scaling, polishing, and fluoride treatments
- Assist with dental procedures and extractions
- Take dental X-rays and maintain dental records
Medical Records & Client Communication
- Update patient records and treatment notes
- Document procedures, medications, anesthesia, diagnostics, and patient progress
- Prepare estimates/treatment plans
- Review homecare instructions and collect consent forms
- Perform client follow-up calls
Administrative & Hospital Support
- Maintain exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgery suites
- Manage inventory, supplies, controlled drug logs, and deliveries
- Use veterinary software (IDEXX Neo)
- Follow OSHA/safety protocols and maintain compliance
Educational Requirements
- Veterinary Technology diploma (Associate degree in applied science preferred)
- Licensed/certified/registered veterinary technician credential
- Veterinary technician experience preferred (1+ year)
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (heavier with assistance)
- Comfortable working around animals, medical equipment, anesthesia, drugs, and radiation
Pay: $24.00-$27.00 per hour
