Are you looking for a role with a recognized and acknowledged industry leader? Our insurance industry client in the downtown core is currently recruiting an AVP Finance. The AVP is responsible for external financial reporting and analysis. Other key responsibilities include representing the Finance team in projects relating to the expansion of business lines and improving procedures and creating efficiencies in the department’s processes.
Responsibilities of the AVP Finance is as follows but not limited to:

Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.

Implementation of new IFRS accounting standards and Regulatory standards.

Manage compliance with regulatory requirements, including regulatory reporting, tax filings, and internal controls.

Collaborate with SVP and Executive team to provide actionable financial insights.

Provide training and oversight to junior team members.

Collaborate with the accounting software service provider to implement improvements/changes to reports and system functionalities.

Work with external auditors to ensure an efficient and timely year-end audit and interim reviews.

Develop and implement additional controls to improve the accuracy and efficiency of processes.

Continual assessment of financial reporting processes, and implementation of measures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Assist with banking activities, such as approval of certain payments.

Liaise with the investment manager and investment service providers as required to ensure accurate reporting of investments.

Assist with the annual budgeting process and preparation of the Company’s annual budget.

Collaborate with other Group Finance staff to support overall Company goals and objectives, while responding to inquiries regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
Requirements

CPA, CA designation required

Minimum 10+ years’ post-designation or relevant work experience

Financial reporting, financial planning & analysis, and managerial experience required

Insurance industry experience preferred, ideally property & casualty

Technical accounting knowledge of IFRS 17

Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, along with attention to detail

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and quickly adapt to shifting priorities

Strong people management, interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to convey technical information to a wide range of audiences
