The Nurse Manager provides clinical leadership and oversees the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care within a specialized memory care environment.
This leadership role is ideal for a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) who is passionate about dementia care, team development, and creating exceptional resident and family experiences. The successful candidate will lead clinical operations, mentor nursing professionals, champion best practices in dementia care, and ensure compliance with
applicable legislation and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Lead the delivery of person-centred nursing care for residents with complex cognitive and physical needs.
- Champion evidence-based dementia care practices that promote dignity, independence, safety, and quality of life.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized care plans.
- Monitor resident outcomes, behavioural changes, and clinical incidents while ensuring timely interventions.
- Lead resident care conferences and build strong, collaborative relationships with residents, families, physicians, hospitals, home care providers, and community partners.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, professional standards, and clinical best practices.
- Serve as the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Lead and support outbreak prevention and response activities.
Team Development
- Recruit, onboard, coach, and develop nursing team members.
- Provide ongoing mentorship, education, and performance management.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.
- Support scheduling, staffing, and workforce planning to ensure quality resident care.
- Participate in the leadership on-call rotation as required.
- Lead by example through professionalism, sound clinical judgment, and ethical decision-making.
Operational Excellence
- Monitor quality indicators and support continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist with departmental budgeting, resource planning, and operational performance.
- Support emergency preparedness, health and safety initiatives, and regulatory inspections.
- Promote safe work practices and maintain a culture of continuous learning and accountability.
Qualifications
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Minimum 3–5 years of leadership experience in seniors' living, retirement, long-term care, or healthcare.
- Demonstrated expertise supporting individuals living with dementia, including responsive behaviours and person-centred care approaches.
- Dementia education or certifications such as GPA, PIECES, DementiAbility, or equivalent are considered strong assets.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Strong understanding of applicable healthcare legislation, infection prevention and control, and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Experience leading clinical teams, coaching staff, and supporting performance management.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with budgeting, quality improvement, and clinical documentation systems is an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends as operationally required.
