As an optical associate at Lake Country Optometry, you will offer expertise in the dispensary areas of frame selection, lens design, edging, measurement and fabrication, frame purchasing and inventory management as well as adjustments, repairs, payments and data collection. The right candidate is open-minded, self-motivated, willing to take on responsibility, and able to work within a team.
This individual should demonstrate a consistently attentive, courteous and compassionate demeanor towards patients. Attention to detail, patience, and the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy environment are necessary skills for every applicant.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with frame selection, styling, fitting, lens selection and measurements; advise customers through the process of finding the perfect pair of glasses through honest and confident feedback based on fit, function, and style
- Dispense, adjust, and repair eyewear
- Troubleshoot and problem-solve eyewear concerns and issues to ensure patient satisfaction.
- Instruct patients on proper eyewear use and care of new eyeglass lenses.
- Enter lab orders and accurate patient information
- Verify prescription eyeglasses and notify patients when eyewear is ready.
- Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails and packages.
- Update electronic health records and patient files using patient management software, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations
- Use and maintain third party billing, financial records, and database as assigned
- Participate in personal and team development training and initiatives including staff meetings, continuing education and conferences.
Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Optician’s license is not required, but is an asset
- Previous experience working as an optical associate, or in an optometry clinic, is preferred
- Previous retail sales experience is preferred
- Organized, flexible, and able to meet changing work needs and demands.
- Strong knowledge of computer systems including use of Microsoft Office products such as Excel and Word
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation with a focus on building positive relationships with patients
- Proficiency in the use of ophthalmic instruments such as adjustment tools, lensometer (manual and automated), and edger is an asset
- Manual dexterity, attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
