Job Overview
AS York is seeking an enthusiastic, empathetic, resourceful Senior Program Worker to join our D.A.Y. Centre team. This is a part-time role, Monday - Thursday, 4 days a week. The successful candidate will report to the Program Manager.
Responsibilities
- Leadership and supervision of staff providing direction, training, mentoring and support to staff, students, and volunteers
- Addresses family concerns pertaining to D.A.Y. Centre activities, liaise with social workers
- Implement the Medication Management Program according to policy
- Overall accountability for the delivery of the D.A.Y. Centre Program
- Implement a client centered philosophy with consistent and safe approach to care and service delivery
- Provide support to co-workers in a team approach
- Direct and assists in group activities and one-on-one programming
- Identify opportunities that will improve service delivery and meet the specific psycho-social needs of the DAY Centre participants
- Regularly reporting on the activities of the program, using the AlayaCare Platform
- Calmly and professionally react to crisis situations
- Maintains environmental standards in accordance with Public Health and Fire regulations
- Monitor participants, assist with participant bathroom routines, support mobility needs
- Monitor participant behaviors and concerns and regularly report concerns and changes to the Program Manager
- Monitors, cleans and maintains the work environment in accordance with the policies of AS York
- Participating in training and educational opportunities as required
- Perform other duties as required and assigned by the Program Manager
Qualifications:
- At least one of the following: Social Service Worker/Gerontology (SSW) Diploma, Activation Coordinator/Gerontology Diploma, Recreation Therapy/Gerontology Diploma or related college level diploma
- Two years’ experience in the non-for-profit sector
- Experience working with diverse cultures, older adults, and persons with cognitive impairment
- Knowledge of dementia and current dementia care practice
- Strong communication skills, second language would be an asset
- Well organized self-starter who can multi-task and discern priorities
- Reacts calmly to crisis situations
- Computer literacy, MS Office, familiarity with AlayaCare would be “nice to have”
- U-First and GPA Certifications
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Food Handler’s Certificate
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Screening Check (provided by successful candidate)
Transparency matters to us. While this role has a broader established salary band, the target hiring rate for this position is $27.00 - $28.50 per hour. Compensation is determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and applicable certifications, and reflects what we reasonably expect to offer for this hire based on current market data.
