CENTRE-BASED YOUTH WORKER- Casual On Call
JOB DESCRIPTION
Work Hours: Casual,
Nature and Scope of Work
The centre-based youth worker works in a drop-in or lounge supervising youth 13-18. There may be a
pre-teen component of 10-12 years olds. The centre worker acts as a role model for youth, engaging
youth in discussions, games, arts/crafts, special events and activities.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Plans daily/weekly activities for youth, identifying their needs and interests in order to offer
effective programming
- Provides leadership and instruction for youth
- Supervises youth; engages in dialogue,
- Keeps statistics and prepares reports related to the work performed
- Performs related work as required
Required Knowledge, Ability and Skills
- Knowledge of the issues, needs and concerns of youth and their psychosocial development
- Ability to establish good rapport with young people
- Ability to assess and refer to the youth outreach worker when necessary
- Team player
- Knowledge of ethics and professional boundaries in youth work
Required Training and Experience
Two years of college or university coupled with considerable experience working with youth 13-18.
Preference will be given to applicants pursuing a child and youth care or diploma or degree.
Required Licenses/Certificates
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification
