The Director, Data Delivery is responsible for the operating model, governance, planning, and execution disciplines that enable Walmart Canada's Data organization to successfully deliver business value through data products and platforms.
Leading the Scrum Master, Data Analyst, and Incident Management functions, this role oversees portfolio planning, financial governance, delivery execution, stakeholder engagement, executive reporting, organizational communications, and continuous improvement initiatives.
As a key member of the Data leadership team, the Director partners closely with Product, Analytics & Insights, Technology, Finance, and business stakeholders to ensure strategic priorities are translated into funded roadmaps, executable plans, and measurable business outcomes.
Portfolio Management & Strategic Planning
- Lead Long Range Planning (LRP), Annual Operating Plan (AOP), and quarterly planning processes for the Data organization.
- Partner with business and technology leaders to prioritize data investments based on business value, strategic alignment, available funding, and organizational capacity.
- Establish portfolio governance processes and provide visibility into roadmap progress, delivery commitments, risks, dependencies, and resource utilization.
- Ensure delivery commitments and investments remain aligned with organizational objectives.
Delivery Excellence & Agile Leadership
- Lead and develop a team of Scrum Masters supporting multiple data product teams.
- Establish standards and best practices for agile delivery, planning, forecasting, dependency management, and continuous improvement.
- Improve delivery predictability, transparency, and execution quality across the portfolio.
- Drive organizational adoption of Agile, Lean, and delivery excellence practices.
Business Analysis & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead the Data Analyst function and establish standards for intake, discovery, requirements gathering, prioritization, and stakeholder engagement.
- Ensure business requirements are aligned to measurable outcomes and delivered through well-defined roadmaps and delivery plans.
- Build trusted partnerships across business, Product, Engineering, and Analytics & Insights teams.
Incident Management & Operational Excellence
- Lead the Incident Management function supporting data platforms and products.
- Establish governance for incident response, stakeholder communications, post-incident reviews, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
- Drive operational excellence through process improvement, automation, and service maturity initiatives.
Financial Planning & Resource Governance
- Own delivery-related financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, workforce planning, and vendor governance.
- Manage actual versus forecast performance and support investment planning decisions.
- Ensure resources and funding are aligned with portfolio priorities and delivery commitments.
Executive Reporting, Communications & Data Office Operations
- Provide executive visibility into portfolio performance, delivery metrics, operational health, financials, and strategic initiatives.
- Coordinate weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting deliverables for Data leadership.
- Own Data Office communications, including leadership updates, newsletters, town halls, and organizational messaging.
- Build and lead Communities of Practice for Scrum Masters, Data Analysts, Incident Managers, and delivery professionals.
People Leadership & Vendor Management
- Hire, coach, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer-centric delivery.
- Lead talent development, performance management, succession planning, and organizational capability building.
- Manage performance and feedback for vendor resources and evolve the managed capacity model into managed services.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.
- Advanced degree considered an asset.
Experience
- 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in delivery management, portfolio management, business analysis, program management, operations, or related disciplines.
- Experience leading large-scale delivery organizations and cross-functional teams.
- Experience in retail and / or eCommerce data environments preferred.
- Proven experience with portfolio planning, financial management, stakeholder engagement, and executive reporting.
- Strong understanding of agile methodologies, and data lifecycle practices.
- Experience within Data, Analytics, Technology, Retail, or eCommerce environments preferred.
- Familiarity with Walmart Canada’s business domains is an asset.
