We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Paint Shop Supervisor to join our railcar manufacturing team. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day operations of the paint shop, ensuring that all painting processes, equipment, and personnel meet production, quality, and safety standards. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise in industrial coatings, and the ability to drive efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Supervise paint shop personnel, including Industrial Spray Painters, helpers, and support staff.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate paint shop activities to meet production deadlines.
- Monitor coating application processes to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
- Oversee surface preparation, coating application, and curing to maintain durability and finish requirements.
- Train, coach, and mentor employees to improve skill levels, productivity, and safety awareness.
- Inspect completed work for quality and adherence to specifications.
- Ensure all safety procedures and PPE requirements are followed at all times.
- Maintain paint shop equipment, spray systems, and tools in proper working condition.
- Collaborate with other production departments to resolve issues and meet organizational goals.
- Prepare reports on productivity, quality, and workforce performance.
- 5+ years of experience in industrial painting/coatings, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Strong technical knowledge of industrial coatings, including plural component epoxies and specialty coatings.
- Hands-on experience with spray equipment (airless, pneumatic, HVLP, LVLP).
- Proven ability to lead teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
- Physically capable of working in a manufacturing environment (standing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs).
- Knowledge of safety regulations and experience enforcing safe work practices.
- Ability to work a 3-shift rotation, including 12-hour, 10-hour, and 8-hour shifts.
