Overview
We are looking for a reliable and motivated Project Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for freight and transportation projects. This role involves analyzing project requirements, planning efficient routes, and preparing bids and proposals while ensuring operational feasibility. Working closely with dispatch, operations, and clients, the estimator monitors project progress, maintains detailed records, and stays informed on market trends to deliver cost-effective and profitable pricing solutions.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for freight, heavy haul, and transportation projects.
- Analyze project scope, client queries, and specifications to finalize pricing.
- Plan cost-effective routes considering permits, load limits, and transit times.
- Build and submit competitive bids, proposals, and RFQs.
- Collaborate with dispatch, operations, and customers to ensure feasibility.
- Track project progress, schedules, and quantities throughout execution.
- Maintain organized records of all estimating documents, correspondence, and revisions for future reference.
- Monitor market trends (fuel, labor, rates) to ensure competitive and profitable pricing.
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in trucking, logistics, dispatch, or estimating/pricing roles.
- Strong knowledge of transportation operations, equipment types, and regulatory requirements (DOT/CVSA).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with TMS or routing software is an asset (Axon, Samsara, etc.)
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills for cost estimation and data interpretation.
- Excellent organization, time management, and ability to work under pressure.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and with clients.
