Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Welding Supervisor/Road Crew Foreman to lead and oversee large-scale construction projects in Orillia and surrounding areas. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of steel installation/erection and proficiency in industry-standards and safety. The Welding Supervisor/Road Crew Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating welding and fitting activities on off-site job locations. This role ensures structural steel installation and field fabrication work is completed in a timely manner while leading a crew of welders, fitters, and helpers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise welders, fitters, and labourers on job sites
- Assign daily tasks and ensure work is completed correctly and on schedule
- Provide direction for fit-up, alignment, and welding procedures
- Lead by example in field fabrication and installation work
Welding & Fabrication Oversight
- Ensure all welding work meets applicable standards (e.g., CWB requirements)
- Review drawings, erection plans, and specifications with the crew
- Oversee structural steel installation, repairs, and modifications in the field
- Perform or inspect critical welds when required
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all site safety rules and procedures
- Conduct toolbox talks and daily hazard assessments
- Ensure proper use of PPE, fall protection, and rigging practices
- Maintain compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and site-specific requirements
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with project managers, general contractors, and site supervisors
- Communicate progress, delays, and site issues to management
- Ensure materials, equipment, and drawings are available on-site
- Work closely with crane operators, riggers, and other trades
Quality Control
- Inspect welds, fit-up, and structural alignment
- Ensure work meets project specifications and engineering requirements
- Identify and correct deficiencies or rework as needed
- Maintain high standards of workmanship in all field operations
Equipment & Resource Management
- Oversee use and care of welding machines, tools, and equipment
- Ensure proper maintenance and safe operation of field equipment
- Manage consumables such as rods, wire, and gas
- Coordinate material handling with rigging and crane crews
Requirements
- Proven supervising experience
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and project estimates accurately
- Familiarity with quality control procedures and safety protocols in construction environments
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage budgets and project timelines effectively
- Estimating experience is a plus
- Strong leadership qualities with excellent communication skills
- Valid driver’s license, CWB certification, and reliable transportation required
