We are seeking a dependable and eager to learn Tradesperson I to join our team in supporting various industrial projects, particularly within the oil and gas sector.
This role offers an opportunity to work on challenging projects that require precision, physical strength, and technical expertise. The Tradesman will play a vital role in maintaining safety, efficiency, and quality standards across all operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Water Jetting Operations
Responsible for:
- Assist with surface preparation, operation of power tools, and setup/operation of paint and sandblasting equipment.
- Complete job checklists to ensure all tasks are properly documented.
- Assist with loading, hooking up, and setting up equipment and trailers.
- Perform safety checks and complete safety checklists.
- Understand and execute Emergency Stop procedures.
Abrasive Blasting Operations
Responsible for:
- Ensure blast media is properly stored and maintained.
- Perform inspections and tests on blast equipment, including blotter tests and hose checks.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot basic blasting equipment.
- Blast substrates to specified conditions and perform visual inspections and touch-ups as needed.
Coatings Application
Responsible for:
- Investigate items with team members for deficiencies and complete surface preparation reports.
- Perform basic surface preparation using solvent wiping, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ensure coatings are stored in an appropriate environment, consulting the Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Perform basic coating pump functions, including operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
FRP Process (Fiber-Reinforced Plastic)
Responsible for:
- Assist in the preparation of FRP materials, including cutting and grinding.
- Apply primers and adhesives to substrates as required for FRP application.
- Assist in the mixing of resins and hardeners following Technical Data Sheet (TDS) instructions.
- Support the layup and application of FRP materials under supervision.
- Monitor curing times and environmental conditions to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Assist with the cleanup and proper storage of FRP materials and tools.
FRP Maintenance and Repair
Responsible for:
- Supervise FRP processes, including material preparation, layup sequence, and application.
- Ensure compliance with TDS, SDS, and Safe Job Procedures (SJP 022).
- Monitor mixing ratios, cure times, and temperature requirements during FRP application.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of FRP tools and equipment.
Safety and Compliance
Responsible for:
- Follow all safety procedures and policies outlined by Spence Corrosion Services.
- Ensure all inspection forms and safety documentation are completed properly.
- Adhere to all safety policies and ensure compliance within the work environment.
- Safely drive company vehicles for material transport and delivery.
- Safely operate compressors and other shop equipment as required.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in work areas, including trucks, trailers, and job boxes.
Qualifications:
Education
- High School Diploma required.
Specialized Knowledge
- Knowledge of blasting, painting, and FRP processes is an asset.
- Confined Space certification.
- First Aid certification.
- H2S certification.
- Fall Protection certification.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic understanding of FRP materials and processes.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
This position is integral to ensuring operational success through technical skillfulness, physical endurance, and a commitment to safety.
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
