Every worker deserves to come home. That's the reason Shift OHS exists — and the reason our clients trust us with drug and alcohol testing, occupational health testing, cognitive readiness, and fitness-for-duty programs for safety-sensitive workplaces across Canada. Right now, we're looking for the nurse who helps make sure that testing is done right, every time — whether it happens in our clinic or 2,000 km away.
What's In It For You:
You'll leave this role with a credential set most nurses never get access to — audiometric testing, pulmonary function testing, and more — fully paid for and fully trained by us. No tuition, no time off to chase it down, no guessing whether it'll pay off.
Beyond the certifications, this is a chance to build a skill set that's genuinely rare: not just performing occupational health testing, but reviewing and standardizing it across a national network of clinics and facilities. That's a different kind of expertise than bedside or clinic nursing, and it opens doors most nursing careers don't.
We're a small, tight-knit team — which means what you bring to the table matters. If you're someone who wants more responsibility over time, that path exists here. If you want to stay focused on the clinical and testing side, that's a real option too. We'll build the role around what you're good at and where you want to go.
What You'll Actually Do:
The core of the role — testing:
● Drug and alcohol testing (certification provided, no cost to you)
● Health assessments — head-to-toe physical exams
● Physical abilities testing — lifting assessments, ladder climbs, aerobic assessments
● Audiometric testing (external certification, fully paid)
● Pulmonary function testing (external certification, fully paid)
● Hearing protection fit testing (training provided)
● Respirator mask fit testing (training provided)
The other core piece — testing review:
Shift OHS serves clients from coast to coast through a network of subcontracted clinics, imaging centers, and testing facilities. You'll be the check on that work — reviewing what they've completed for accuracy, completeness, and classification against Shift OHS standards, so our clients get the same defensible results no matter where the test happened. In a lot of ways, this is where you catch what would otherwise slip through — making sure nothing invisible stays that way.
Where it can go from there:
Depending on your experience and what you're looking for, there's room to grow into a broader role — team management, administrative coordination, education development and delivery. We're not filling a rigid job description here; we're finding the right person and building around them.
Who You Are:
● An active, Registered Nurse
● Comfortable learning technical, procedure-driven skills and holding yourself to a standard of getting it exactly right, not just done
● Someone who takes ownership — if something's off in a test result or a process, you say so and you fix it, you don't let it slide
● Flexible about what's actually on your plate day to day. We're a small business — priorities and responsibilities shift as our needs change, and the people who do well here are the ones who see something that needs doing and just do it, rather than waiting to be asked or drawing a hard line around "my job"
Not required, but an asset:
● Occupational health certification or experience
● Administrative or coordination experience
● Experience working across multi-site or subcontracted service networks
What We Provide:
● Full training and certification for every testing modality above, at no cost to you
● A wage commensurate with the skills and experience you bring to the role
● Regular, in-person hours in Red Deer — no shift work (Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm)
