Job description
BL Lighting is hiring a Lighting Controls & Smart Systems Technical Support Specialist to support lighting control systems used in commercial, architectural, entertainment, retail, and specialty lighting projects.
This is a client-facing technical support role focused on lighting controls, smart lighting systems, troubleshooting, documentation, and technical communication.
The successful candidate will help clients, contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, and internal team members understand and resolve technical issues related to lighting control systems and connected technologies.
Most of the work is performed from our Vancouver office and involves technical support, troubleshooting, project coordination, documentation, and communication by phone, Zoom, and email. Occasional bench testing or field support may be required.
The strongest candidates may come from one or more of these backgrounds:
- Lighting controls, dimming systems, DMX, architectural lighting, stage lighting, event lighting, or entertainment lighting
- AV systems, automation, smart home systems, control systems, or BMS/building systems
- Low-voltage electrical, security, access control, networking, telecom, or IT technical support
- Technical design, CAD, AGi32, electrical drawings, fixture schedules, or lighting specifications
- Electronics, computer systems, technical support, or systems troubleshooting
We will train on BL Lighting’s products, systems, and internal workflows. However, candidates should already have a strong technical foundation, good troubleshooting instincts, and professional communication skills.
What you’ll do
- Support lighting control projects from product selection and configuration through troubleshooting and client support
- Communicate with clients, contractors, suppliers, manufacturers, and internal staff by phone, Zoom, and email
- Help troubleshoot lighting control systems, dimming systems, smart lighting systems, and related technical issues
- Review drawings, wiring diagrams, lighting layouts, specifications, fixture schedules, and system documentation
- Help test, configure, and troubleshoot lighting control systems
- Coordinate with manufacturers and suppliers to clarify technical requirements
- Document issues clearly so they can be followed up and resolved properly
- Proactively follow up on open items so projects and technical issues continue moving forward
- Learn BL Lighting’s products, software tools, internal systems, and project workflows
- Contribute to improving internal technical-support processes and documentation
Required qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a relevant technical role
- Experience in at least one of the following: lighting controls, dimming, DMX, AV systems, automation, low-voltage electrical, building systems, networking, telecom, IT support, or technical systems support
- Strong troubleshooting ability
- Comfortable learning technical products, software interfaces, and system documentation
- Able to read or learn to read drawings, wiring diagrams, specifications, fixture schedules, or technical manuals
- Professional spoken and written English for daily client communication
- Comfortable calling clients, suppliers, manufacturers, and internal team members to gather information and solve problems
- Able to work full-time in person at our Vancouver office
Strongly preferred qualifications
- Experience with lighting controls, dimming systems, DMX, architectural lighting, entertainment lighting, stage lighting, or event lighting
- Experience with automation, smart lighting, BMS, AV controls, smart home systems, or low-voltage control systems
- Exposure to AGi32, CAD, lighting layouts, electrical drawings, fixture schedules, or lighting specifications
- Experience supporting contractors, consultants, integrators, technicians, designers, or end users
- Experience documenting support tickets, technical issues, test results, or project follow-up notes
- Personal or professional interest in lighting, AV, DJ equipment, stage production, smart home systems, networking, electronics, or technical systems

Compensation
