Position Summary
CAUSE Canada is seeking experienced and engaged individuals to join its volunteer Board of Directors.
Board Directors serve in a position of trust and provide governance oversight, strategic direction, and stewardship to ensure the organization fulfills its mission and achieves long-term impact. The Board works closely with the Executive Director to support organizational effectiveness, accountability, and growth.
CAUSE Canada is particularly interested in individuals with prior governance board experience who are motivated to contribute at a strategic level within a growing international development organization.
Responsibilities
Board members are accountable for:
- Upholding and supporting CAUSE Canada’s mission, values, and Statement of Faith
- Providing governance oversight and strategic leadership
- Participating in the development and monitoring of the strategic plan and organizational performance
- Approving annual budgets, audit reports, and major organizational decisions, and ensuring fiduciary and legal responsibilities are met
- Supporting, evaluating, and, when required, participating in the hiring of the Executive Director
- Attending Board meetings (four to six per year), committee meetings (approximately monthly), and the Annual General Meeting
- Supporting fundraising efforts, including attending events and contributing as able
- Acting as ambassadors for CAUSE Canada and strengthening relationships with stakeholders
Desired Skills and Attributes
CAUSE Canada seeks Board Directors who bring a combination of the following:
- Alignment with CAUSE Canada’s mission and values
- Governance experience, ideally on nonprofit or charitable boards
- Experience or willingness to support fundraising and donor engagement
- Knowledge of risk management and organizational oversight
- Strong strategic thinking and ability to contribute to long-term planning
- Ability to maintain a big-picture perspective while understanding organizational realities
Term
Directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting and serve a two-year term. Directors may serve up to three consecutive terms, after which they must take at least one year off.
