Overview
Under the direction of the Operations Manager & Superintendent, this position will be responsible for leading and supervising a team of up to 2 crew hands and performing a variety of tasks.
A dedicated and passionate Gardener with a strong understanding of landscape maintenance and enjoys working outdoors.
Performing regular assessments and maintenance of gardens for commercial properties, HOA’s and Calgary Transit sites, while providing exceptional customer service to our clients.
Responsibilities
- Providing exceptional customer service & client experiences
- Demonstrating strong leadership skills and overseeing a team of up to 2 crew members
- Assessing and maintaining gardens and other landscaped areas, including detail gardening, weeding, edging, cultivating, grass trimming, fertilizer application, hedge trimming, planting
- Provide expert assessments of plant health and recommendations
- Operating knowledge of a variety of landscape equipment
- Ability to assist with work schedules and procedures, as well as coordinate activities with other work units
- Ability to resolve work related problems and prepare and submit progress and other reports
- Working shoulder to shoulder with an on-site crew and ability to train new crew hands on required job duties and company policies
- Additional tasks as required
Basic/Required Qualifications
- Post-Secondary education – Certified Red Seal/Journeyman Horticulturist, or 3rd/4th year Apprentice combined with experience, or Landscape Diploma or Certificate
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and reliable transportation
- Minimum 3-5 years of previous experience in a similar role
- Exceptional customer service and sales skills
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Working knowledge of the use of common hand and power tools relative to horticulture/gardening
- Expert in horticulture with an enthusiasm for plants
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
- Ability to maintain simple records and make verbal reports
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
- Assistant Pesticide Applicator Certificate
- Previous landscaping, gardening or outdoor maintenance experience is an asset
- Ability to maintain composure and be a role model especially under stressful situations
- Ability to take direction, learn and work independently as well as part of a team
- Motivated and energetic team player with an attention to detail and great work ethic
- Punctual and dependable
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy intensive tasks for extended periods of time
- Working in a variety of outdoor environments with the ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures
- Physically demanding position
- Significant standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling
- Repetitive motions
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, push and pull weights of up to 50 lbs
