Job Overview
The growing team at Moodys Private Client LLP seeks to add a Canadian Tax Principal to its accounting team in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Moodys Private Client is a firm that provides accounting, tax and legal services primarily to clients in Canada and the US, ranging in size from small owner-manager enterprises to large, privately held organizations, as well as individuals, trusts and partnerships. The candidate will work with a team of accountants, lawyers and tax professionals. A confident individual that is looking to work alongside some of Canada’s top tax professionals that can demonstrate initiative, and motivation is key for this role.
Duties
- Advise business owners, clients on a full spectrum of tax services, including business and succession planning, reorganizations, cross-border tax issues and related tax compliance
- Manage and oversee the engagement of team, focused on firm's tax engagements, including partnership, corporate, trust and individual tax clients. This includes the planning and execution of client tax engagements, training and mentoring of staff members, management of key client relationships and continued development of the overall tax function of the firm.
- Oversee the preparation and review processes for complex tax returns (such as complex T1, T2, T3 and T5013 returns), elections and other regulatory filings (such as Form T1134 and Form T106).
- Identify opportunities in the current client base, as well as opportunities for potential clients and engage in prospective client engagement proposals.
- Oversee and conduct in-depth research on complex tax matters and prepare clear and well-written memos.
- Write and present on trending tax topics both internally and externally.
- Manage and deliver client deliverables in a timely and efficient fashion.
- Liaise directly with internal and external lawyers and other professionals to implement tax planning and ensure compliance is adhered to.
- Work alongside the US tax team on cross-border tax issues.
- Develop and implement innovative tax planning strategies for a diverse client base.
- Lead the management in the administration of personal and trust tax compliance seasons.
Skills and Experience
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting and/or other appropriate academic major.
- 10+ years of relevant tax experience or equivalent experience in business or industry.
- Possess a Canadian CPA designation.
- A strong willingness to learn and collaborate with other professionals.
- Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program or Master’s in Taxation.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Organized and able to manage several priorities at one time.
- A team player willing to foster a learning environment.

Pay: $140,000.00-$185,000.00 per year
