Who You Are
The Kitchen Manager is a hands-on operational leader responsible for overseeing the full daily prep cycle at UpMeals. You bridge the night prep team and the day prep team, taking ownership from reviewing completed overnight work through to preparing the kitchen and team for the next production day. You thrive working alongside your team on the floor, lead by example, and ensure every shift runs with precision, accountability, and a commitment to food quality.
Core Responsibilities
1. Kitchen Operations & Food Quality
- Oversee all kitchen operations, including food quality, food preparation, and the day to day running of the production kitchen.
- Maintain consistent food quality and food safety standards across every shift, ensuring all products meet UpMeals specifications.
- Monitor inventory of prepped items and ingredients, flagging shortages or issues before they affect production.
2. Night & Day Team Oversight
- Oversee both the night prep team and the day prep team, ensuring a smooth and accountable handover between shifts.
- Review the night team's completed work at the start of each shift, verifying output against production requirements.
- Follow up on any outstanding or incomplete tasks from the night team and complete remaining work needed to keep production on track.
- Ensure the day prep team is set up and working with clear priorities from the start of the shift.
3. Daily Prep & Task Assignment
- Work hands-on alongside the prep team on day to day prep needs, leading from the floor.
- Assign daily tasks to prep team members and ensure each person understands their priorities and responsibilities.
- Track task completion throughout the shift and adjust assignments as needed to meet production deadlines.
4. Bulk Preparation & Production Planning
- Prepare bulk items in the quantities required for the next production day.
- Plan prep volumes against upcoming production schedules to ensure the kitchen is fully set up for success the following day.
- Coordinate with the Production Manager on production needs, schedule changes, and priorities.
- Manage Inventory and ordering of ingredients
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience in a commercial or production kitchen, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
- Strong knowledge of food preparation, food quality standards, and food safety practices.
- Proven ability to lead a team, assign tasks clearly, and hold others accountable.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities across a fast-paced shift.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working hands-on alongside the prep team every shift.
- Food Safe Level 1 certification is an asset;
- Availability to work Sundays is required.

Pay: $49,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
