Position Summary
The Electrical Manufacturing Cell Technician is responsible for the safe setup, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of electrical sub-assemblies within a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment.
This role requires a strong foundation in electrical engineering technology and hands-on experience with Intermediate electrical systems (up to 800 V DC), with a focus on safety, performance validation, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
High Voltage Testing & Validation
- Assemble electrical component & sub-assemblies and operate standard and custom electrical test equipment to evaluate performance of electrical sub-assemblies
- Perform energized functional testing of 800V class DC systems to validate compliance with design specifications
- Conduct diagnostic testing and root cause analysis on electrical performance issues
Safety System Verification
- Validate functionality of safety devices including: Insulation monitoring devices and Ground Fault Interrupters (GFI/GFCI)
- Ensure all systems meet internal safety and regulatory requirements prior to release
- Owning and developing/driving safety protocols and operational processes within the manufacturing environment.
Insulation & Dielectric Testing
- Perform dielectric withstand (HiPot) testing on: Potted electronics and Cable assemblies, and harnesses
- Interpret test results and escalate non-conformances
Energy Isolation & Safe Handling
- Execute discharge and verification procedures to ensure zero-energy state prior to handling
- Follow strict lockout/tagout and safe work procedures for 800V class DC systems
- Support development and continuous improvement of 800V class DC safety protocols
Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
- Support the development and use of custom test jigs and fixtures
- Collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams to resolve issues and improve test processes, document test results, procedures, and non-conformances in accordance with internal quality systems
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field
- Certification as a C.Tech (Certified Technician)
- Alignment with Electrical and electronics engineering technologists and technicians (NOC 22310)
- Strong hands-on experience with electrical testing, troubleshooting, and diagnostics
- Demonstrated ability to safely work with energized electrical systems
- Solid understanding of electrical fundamentals (voltage, current, resistance, insulation systems)
Preferred Qualifications
- 442A Industrial Electrician* (Ontario) or equivalent industrial electrical experience in a manufacturing environment
- ***The work utilizes a strong foundation in electrical principles and diagnostics, but does not involve typical electrician trade duties like installation or general site maintenance.
- Experience with soldering and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) rework.
