Tidal Transit Authority is seeking a Casual/Spare Bus Operator to join our dedicated team in delivering safe, reliable, and customer-focused public transportation services in the Annapolis Valley. Reporting to the Operations Supervisor team and the Operations Manager, the Bus Operators are responsible for operating a transit bus on fixed routes in accordance with established schedules. In addition to driving duties, the successful candidate will perform daily pre-trip inspections, complete routine shift documentation, report to maintenance team of any deficiencies, refuel the vehicle, and provide courteous and helpful service to all passengers.

A valid Nova Scotia Class 2 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement, or higher (Class 1). Applicants holding a Class 1 license will receive transit-specific training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General
· Operate a transit bus safely and in accordance with the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act and Tidal Transit policies and procedures
· Conduct pre-trip inspections and complete related administration
· Maintain an awareness of route and network performance while on shift; communicate with other operators and the main office as required to facilitate route connections and provide notice of delays
· Collect fares for transit service from customers without exceptions and secure funds, immediately report attempts at fare evasion or fraud to the main office and complete related administration
· Count passengers and complete related administration forms
· Assist passengers with securing and un-securing mobility devices
· Assist passengers with inquiries; maintain a detailed knowledge of:
- Transit routes and network
- Fare structure
- Customer interfaces for CAD/AVL system
- Customer interfaces for fare media
- Customer interfaces for bus WiFi
· Vehicle maintenance:
- Top up fluids
- Report on bus defects that may occur during shift
- Fuel bus at shift end, secure fueling apparatus and fuel cage, sweep and empty garbage, park and secure bus
· Shuttle buses when necessary
· Support REMO and Bomb Threat Plans when and as required
· Promote a safe work environment, comply with OHS policies and procedures
· Other duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor or Operations Manager
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
· Valid Nova Scotia Class 2 License with Air Brake Endorsement or higher (Class 1)
· Successful completion of Grade 12
· Two (2) years’ experience in a transportation operations environment would be an asset
· Demonstrated understanding of current OHS legislation and general work practices
· First aid and CPR certificate
· WHMIS course will be provided by Kings Transit Authority

WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical and Environmental Demands:
· Required to operate a bus or service vehicle
· Lifting weight of 23kg (50lbs) for the purpose of transporting fluids or necessary items
· Sitting for long periods of time
· Kneeling, bending, crouching
· Outdoor work may be exposed to extreme conditions of weather
· There is a requirement to respond at any time when contacted due to a mechanical breakdown or the implementation of the Emergency Response Procedures for E.M.O.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Criminal Record Check
Work Schedule:
As a Casual/Spare Bus Operator there is no guarantee of working hours.
Actual Bus Operator working schedule: Monday to Saturday, morning and afternoon shifts with possible shift adjustments in response to operational requirements.
