We are seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Service Writer to join our automotive repair team. The ideal candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for customers requiring vehicle repairs and maintenance, ensuring a seamless experience from vehicle check-in to service completion.
This role requires excellent communication skills, strong mechanical knowledge, and a passion for delivering outstanding customer service. Previous experience as a Service Writer, automotive technician, or in the automotive repair industry is highly valued. Sales aptitude and cash-handling experience are also considered assets. The Service Writer plays a vital role in building customer trust, recommending additional maintenance and repair services when appropriate, and supporting the overall success of our service department.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers promptly and professionally as they arrive for service appointments.
- Accurately document vehicle concerns and repair requests using shop management software.
- Provide clear explanations of recommended repairs and maintenance, ensuring customers understand the work being performed.
- Recommend additional maintenance or repair services to improve vehicle safety, reliability, and performance.
- Coordinate with technicians regarding repair needs, parts requirements, and estimated completion times.
- Prepare detailed repair orders and process cash, debit, credit, and electronic payments accurately.
- Keep customers informed of their vehicle’s repair status throughout the service process.
- Follow up with customers after service to ensure satisfaction and address any concerns.
- Maintain organized records of repair orders, customer interactions, and financial transactions.
- Assist in promoting shop services through exceptional customer service and product knowledge.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Service Writer is preferred but not required. Experience in automotive repair or as a mechanic is considered an asset.
- Strong mechanical knowledge and an understanding of vehicle systems and repair procedures.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
- Sales experience, particularly recommending maintenance and repair services, is an asset.
- Cash-handling experience with a high level of accuracy and integrity.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and attention to detail.
