About Sister Sophie
Sister Sophie is a leading K–12 academic enrichment institute in the Greater Toronto Area, specializing in literacy, literature, writing, and critical thinking. We integrate high-quality educational resources in Ontario to support students’ English language development, academic confidence, and long-term competitiveness in Canada and abroad.
With over 13 years of experience, Sister Sophie has served more than 1,100 students and currently supports over 300 students across Canada and China. Our programs are designed to help students build strong foundations in reading, writing, literary understanding, and independent thinking, while developing the skills needed for continued academic success.
About the Role
We are looking for an English Instructor to teach students in one-on-one and small group settings, with a focus on literacy, literature, academic writing, and critical thinking. The role is best suited for candidates with strong English reading and writing skills, a solid humanities or education background, and a genuine interest in helping K–12 students develop long-term academic abilities.
Instructors will teach using Sister Sophie’s curriculum, lesson materials, and academic guidelines, while also adapting instruction based on students’ levels, learning goals, and class formats. Training and teaching support will be provided, and suitable candidates may have the opportunity to grow into advanced teaching, curriculum development, or teacher training responsibilities over time.
Our Students & Programs
Our students are academically motivated learners from Grades 1 to 12, many of whom come from families that place a strong emphasis on long-term academic development, reading ability, writing skills and critical thinking. Our classes are designed to support students not only in improving their English performance, but also in developing the confidence, structure, and analytical skills needed for success in demanding academic environments.
Our current teaching areas include academic literacy, literature, reading comprehension, essay writing, and ELG programs, with ELG classes primarily serving students in Grades 1 to 6. Some students and parents communicate primarily in Mandarin, so the ability to support Mandarin-speaking students and families is considered a strong asset, especially for instructors working with ELG students.

- Deliver lessons using Sister Sophie’s curriculum, lesson materials, and academic guidelines, while adapting instruction to students’ learning levels, goals, and class formats.

- Mark homework, provide constructive feedback, and support students in improving their reading, writing, analytical thinking, and communication skills.
- Track student progress and communicate relevant updates to the academic and administrative teams as needed.
- Communicate with students and parents when necessary regarding learning progress, homework expectations, class performance, and academic goals.
- Participate in teacher training, academic development, curriculum discussions, or teaching material improvement when needed.
